Marketing leadership for Burns, Henry & Kirksey

Burns, Henry & Kirksey

The business and the work

BH&K began as a residential closing law firm with one office in Cleveland, Tennessee. It now has several locations and a growing commercial practice. I advise its leaders on how the firm presents itself as it grows, and help carry those decisions through its marketing.

The relationship includes marketing advice, campaigns, public relations and systems strategy. I have also helped with continuing-education development and staff resources. The value of staying involved is knowing the firm well enough to connect a new task with the larger plan.

One decision: who should hear the news first?

When attorney William D. Jones joined the firm, there was an announcement to make. Before developing the public materials, I recommended telling key clients and referral partners directly. Those relationships mattered to the firm, and they deserved to hear the news from BH&K.

I then created the website and social media materials and published them with the firm’s approval. The work connected a communications decision with the writing, design and practical steps needed to carry it out.

Keeping the marketing together

We have made BH&K’s advertising, client materials and announcements more approachable and consistent. I continue to advise its leaders and help with the marketing as the firm grows.

This is the kind of continuing relationship I mean by marketing leadership: agree on the priorities, make the decisions with the people responsible for the business, and stay involved in the work.

When this kind of help is useful

A growing business can have plenty of individual marketing tasks and still need someone to decide how they fit together. An announcement, an advertisement and a staff resource should support the same understanding of the business.

If that sounds familiar, start with the decisions that need an owner. We can discuss whether you need continuing leadership, occasional advice or help delivering a defined project.
